It’s every woman’s worst nightmare…finding Mr. Right only to realize too late that he is a stranger with dark vibes and even darker intentions.
In Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Pris, Jack and Grace Angel are a couple worthy of their own Instagram page. The successful man and his adoring wife. They have the house that should be on the cover of Homes and Gardens, and a flawless marriage – the envy of all their friends.
But reality is only a hairsbreadth away from anyone willing to look closer. If they look closer, they might see the tension behind Grace’s eyes, or the way Jack sits just a little too close for comfort. They might see shaking hands when Grace puts dinner on the table or hear the command behind Jack’s suggestions.
The newlyweds that seem perfect might not be so perfect after all. And that might be the most dangerous thing yet.
So, it’s rare for me to want to close a book because it shook me, and it’s even rarer for me to that near the beginning of the book. But, as I turned delicate page after delicate page of Behind Closed Doors, I found myself rolling my shoulders and preparing myself for the boogeyman to pop out from behind the door.
This book had me hooked from the beginning. I thought I was getting a typical thriller with scary scenes and surprisingly plot twists. I didn’t expect to feel so…uncomfortable while reading about Jack. It was almost like he was right in front of me, flesh and bone, instead of a character on the page.
The imagery of this book had me looking over my shoulder for the monster behind the man. It had me wondering if I was safe and had me double checking the locks on my door.
Not many authors can make a scene so realistic that I could feel the horror of being in a dark room with no way out. Even thinking about it makes my claustrophobia rear its ugly head.
B.A. Paris beings the unimaginable to reality in a sharp way that leaves you both wanting more and wanting to run away.
I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they’re strong enough to withstand the monsters that live among us. This book is good for anyone who loves psychological thrillers and regularly watches shows like SVU, Blue Bloods, and even Dexter.
